OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Do you know the Pythagorean Theorem?

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

a squared + b squared = c squared, right?

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Correct. and you have to apply that correctly. a² + b² = c² where c is the hyopenuse, which in this case is what you have to solve.

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

so it would be 8 squared + 10 squared = c squared

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

correct

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

so it would be 62+100= 162 squared and you would have to divide that by a square root, right?

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Actually it is 164 and then you have to take the square root.

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

whoops... I mean 64... sorry xP so how would you find the square root again? You find two right? Two perfect squares that equal your number?

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

|dw:1396396571448:dw|

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

yes, I've learned it... I just get mixed up with all the different processes.... the answer I keep getting is 12.8 when rounded to the nearest tenth, but this isn't in the format they want.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Okay I think they want you to do some manipulation with it. 164 = 4 * 41 so sq root (164) = sq root (4 * 41) = 2 * sq root (41) Is that what they want?

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

Yes! Thank you so much! I really think I get it, now!

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

okay !!!!!!!! Glad I could help.

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

Thanks again! (: Math is just beyond me. xD But hey if you ever need help with English, I'm your girl.
