If the length of each side of a cube is tripled, is the surface area tripled? Use an example to support your answer.

Let x be the original length of each side of the cube. The new sides now measure 3x units of length. There are six sides on a cube. Calculate the new area of each side, and figure out the total area for all six sides. Compare this with the original area of the cube to see how much the area has changed. In this problem, you are tripling something, then squaring, so the surface area will more than triple.
