You are asked to solve for y in the equation –3 = 5y – 2x, given that x = –4. What is the first step you would take? A. Substitute –4 for x in the equation. B. Add 3 to both sides of the equation. C. Divide both sides of the equation by 3. D. Add 2x to both sides of the equation.

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Since you know x = -4 ...you need only substitute it in to solve for 'y'....so A looks about right
