@e.mccormick @amistre64 (Moderator) @hartnn (Moderator @mathmale (Moderator) @beccaboo333 (Ambassador) * Possible to assign a key to Block Spammers ? * Assigning an automatic option, which works wen 7 or more people reports a user he get blocked.

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

That would be very helpful, sadly regular users (especially trolls) would misuse that option... You can block users but are unable to do much more than that. If you are being annoyed by a mass tagger then you may report it. The moderators are well aware of those reports, and they do take care of them. After a certain amount of reports made on a user they end up community banned. We are still in the works of making it so spammers(as well as mass taggers) are unable to continue these actions. Hopefully with time we can make this environment free of those.

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@beccaboo333 I applaud your suggestion, unfortunately wen spammers does the job....users got no time to think....about block option, instead their response comes much faster which makes others too irritated... For this, is it possible to Assign three Mods or 3 Ambys to take care of Chat Alone ... Ambys-Chat window, Mods- Open Question Windows.

OpenStudy (koikkara):

Anyways OS doesnot lack Amby's...much..

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

If we had assigned mods/ambies to sections things would go crazy. What if for a specific section no mods or ambies came on? It would get out of control. Moderators have access to everything.

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@beccaboo333 Well, from my experience with OS, its not gonna be a problem either... because Mods can assign people who are active and much co-operative minded both during night (ppl from foreign countries) and Daytime (people from India, as majority are indians during day time)...

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

We've had the system of assigned areas before I believe. It did not work out well at all. Simply having all moderators active everywhere is how we manage to keep OpenStudy halfway decent. Yes, we do have trolls daily. Those are taken care of. Ambassadors do not have any access to suspending/banning users. We Ambassadors are here to welcome, guide, and remind users of rules. Moderators take care of the situations as best as they can. Administration are the only ones who are able to IP ban users. When moderators get many abuse reports in, they have to sort through all of them to see which are false and which are real. It can be pretty tough for them. Yet they still manage to do this daily. It's just how OpenStudy is. I can understand how annoyed you may be with the mass tagging, believe me. It can get to be too much, I was tagged well over 30 times by a troll on here today alone. The moderators had dealt with it. When this site starts to lag, the moderators tools do not work as well. In the mean time, you can ignore the notifications or report the user. One report alone should be enough unless it continues without being resolved. Just make sure you explain in the abuse box what is going on that way the moderators have an idea on what to do. Another option could be to take the matter into your hands (when you don't have to) and remind them of the rules through our CoC. https://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct . Don't spam! Common forms of spam include: Posting a question multiple times within a short period of time. Posting a question that is off topic for a particular group (i.e. posting a physics question in the Mathematics group). Posting a reply that is not relevant to the topic of discussion within that question. Posting questions that are not, in fact, questions (for example, starting a question in the Mathematics group to wish someone "Happy Birthday"). Sending the same chat message repeatedly. Filing false abuse reports on a user repeatedly. This section alone is what really goes for the "mass taggers" Hopefully this all helped you understand. :)

OpenStudy (koikkara):

Ofcourse , it does.... Once I acted weird and i'm aware of rules much better than other users do... Well, in here I was asking Like Amby's, why can't OS create Chat Leaders. and let them have a chance to contact mods either straight or through amby's during situations ?

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@beccaboo333 CHAT Leaders.. ROLE (just my views only ) **Consider Chat Leaders to have a continuous troll in Chats, ofcourse this encourage others to be a leader like them too... ** In Situations they should be given the right to use the Block option for Spammers Only. ** Assign a chat leader by asking the chat students to vote for them, from the list of names collected by amby's..or mod's. ** Possible Provide them with a (@-instead of a, use c) before their names to identify. If u like to, u can add more... { @shereenkhan @@e.mccormick how about this Idea }

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@Preetha Good Morning to YOU Mam.... Wondering will this work against Spammers ?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@Koikkara Actually, when multiple people report a user, they run into the community suspension system. The development team is finishing a couple of projects. They hope to have some time after that to deal with some new moderation tools and the moderators are discussing that with Preetha. Exactly what will be implemented and when is still up in the air, so we won't know until they actually tool at the proposals and do some feasibility checking. It also, it seems you are confusing moderators and administrators. Moderators are community members that have been selected because of their close connection to the OS philosophies as well as an understanding of the term moderation. They can not create or modify anything on a user's profile. Administrators, in contrast, have all the mod tools and a few more. They can also change the status of people, but they do not do so at all lightly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats messed upwe are not trolls

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@e.mccormick Alright, i thought both moderators and administrators are just the same people in purples. Thanks for Information, i applaud that response.

OpenStudy (jlg030597):

Heres a solution to it you just set it to where all the post box can recognize is words and then spam is useless cause it wont post

OpenStudy (koikkara):

Thanks for valuable opinion, unfortunately i have many solutions but, wen other users continuously get unwanted messages or notifications , they can't afford it or can't do their job in a pleasant manner..So, its required to find a way to avoid hurting kids in here.. I applaud your thought dear friend @jlg030597. More suggestion are welcome !

OpenStudy (jlg030597):

Um then another thing to do is put it to where they are agreeing when they sign up for OS to not use spam or hurt anyone in here or else by law they can be arrested for cyber bulling right?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@jlg030597 On signup, all people agree to follow: http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct http://openstudy.com/terms-and-conditions http://openstudy.com/privacy-policy These include references to terms like any applicable laws. This includes COPPA, spam laws, and more. That does not mean people will follow these rules or even read them.

OpenStudy (jlg030597):

Ok but why not have the people fined for not following website rules?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

They are warned, suspended, and banned at times. There are 7 billion people on the planet. If only a very small fraction of a percent are internet trolls, that is still hundreds of thousands. All it takes is a few of those to land on a web site and they can keep on carrying problems through assorted means.

OpenStudy (pixiedust1):

My only suggestion to stop spam tagging would be to put a max on the number of people tagged per user per question.

OpenStudy (pixiedust1):

Like allowing each user only 5 tags per question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Koikkara @e.mccormick Wondering is there any option in OS to meet Offline Users ?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

It is not a dating site and trading personal information is against the rules. Partially this is to help with compliance with COPPA laws and similar regulations on internet activity involving minors. So no, there is not really any provision for meeting OS users offline.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, I'm sorry..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

check out the username; "IRuinThisSiteForFun": that's a sure sign of trouble

OpenStudy (koikkara):
