How did the colonists in the New World make their political institutions more democratic? Men were required to own land to be eligible to vote. A greater percentage of men could vote in the colonies than could vote in England. Both men and women were allowed to vote in town meetings.

They implemented the creation of representatives for a set number of people. They also allowed more freedoms for people to voice their opinion about governmental policies.
