OpenStudy (jkbo):

Please help What is a polynomial with a single root at x = 6 and a triple root at x = -2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x-6)*(x+2)^3 Single and triple is referring to the exponent of x - [the root].

OpenStudy (jkbo):

@JoelSjogren would this be the answer??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, but it is not the only one. You can multiply it by any non-zero number to get another answer.

OpenStudy (jkbo):

@JoelSjogren I multiplied and got this x^4−24x^2−64x−48

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me too

OpenStudy (jkbo):

is that answer I should put down or is this first one good?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would prefer the first one in many cases because it is more readable. However in some cases, such as when integrating, it can be better to use the second answer.
