Many molecules are unable to pass through a semipermeable membrane. Identify and describe two mechanisms that may be employed to move these molecules across the membrane.

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Hint: proteins on the surface of the cells

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Carrier proteins and transport proteins

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Correct. Now all you have to figure out are the mechanisms that involve carrier and transport proteins.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Transport proteins are the hydrophilic channels which allows a pathway for ions to pass through the membrane since the rest of the part of the cell membrane is made up of phospolipids and other component which doesn't allow the movement of ions to occur. These transport protein controls what leaves and get in the cell

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lipids are what are on the outer and inside of the cell membrane and alow protines to enter????? well thats what i think

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

I was asking the one asking to answer those questions. Remember on OpenStudy we give hints and help, not answers. Do refer to our CoC and TaC. http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct http://openstudy.com/privacy-policy Also, these proteins are needed because of molecule size and concentration. As I said before, look up passive and active transportations.
