Find the slope of the line that passes through (2, 1) and (7, –2).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use the equation to solve for slope: slope= (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) or the change in the y divided by the change in the x

OpenStudy (razzanide):

(-2+1)/(7-2) to find the slope

i still don't get it

OpenStudy (razzanide):

This website can help explain finding the slope when you're given two points like this problem: http://coolmath.com/algebra/08-lines/06-finding-slope-line-given-two-points-01.htm This picture sums it up nicely though: http://coolmath.com/algebra/08-lines/images/06-lines-06.gif So in this case, the problem would look like this: (-2+1) ------ (7-2)

Think of two points on the line (both given to you in this problem) the first you can call (x1,y1) and the second (x2,y2) use the equation (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) to find the slope.
