anyone know about standard error?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have a population mean and a sample mean, but which one do i use for the formula??!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm hearing both from online info

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The standard error is the standard deviation of the sampling distribution of a statistic. The term may also be used to refer to an estimate of that standard deviation, derived from a particular sample used to compute the estimate. @cbkb1234

so i would use my sample mean?? and not my population mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Tell me what its asking. That way its easier for me to help you out.. @cbkb1234

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Calculate standard error (the question) and my numbers are SAMPLE; mean=3.13 SD=0.53 n=86 and POPULATION mean=3.02 SD=0.54

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the equation is sigma/sqrt(86)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but what goes in the sigma? the sample SD or the Population SD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

never mind I figured it out
