FactsThey are the largest Asia primates. The males stand about four and a half feet tall and can weigh up to 300lbs. Females are only half as big as males. Orangutans live in the tropical rainforests, including both hill forests and swamp forests. They are only found in the southeast islands of Asia in Sumatra and Borneo. Integumentary System Orangutans have hair instead of fur, fingernails instead of claws, opposable thumbs. It is mostly covered with long reddish-brown hair and grey-black skin. Their hair keeps them warm. Muscular/skeletal System They have a large developed brain and hard none structure. They have an active and sympathetic nervous system and they also have a large brain and spinal cord Circulatory system They have a closed circulatory system. Reprodustion SystemOrangutans have the slowest reproduction rate out of all the mammals in the world. Females are fertile for about 35 years of their life and have around 3 to 4 offspring in that time. This is because the average time gap between births is 8 years long. With birth rates that slow and our society destroying their habitat and trapping orangutans. Males mature at around 15 years of age, by which time they have fully descended testicles and can reproduce. Digestive System Orangutans are omnivores but primarily herbivores. Their digestive system is set up more like a carnivore though so it's inefficient. Because of this they need to eat a huge amount of food everyday, sometimes up to 12kg. To find all of this food, they spend about 6 to 8 hours everyday finding food. Theymostly eat fruits but they also eat 400 different types of plants. http://kellyhephner.blogspot.com/
