The war in the Pacific began on December 7, 1941, when warplanes from Japan launched a surprise attack on the U.S. Navy base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. By this time, Japan had already been at war with China for several years and had seized the Chinese territory of Manchuria. After the Pearl Harbor attack, Japan began a massive campaign of expansion throughout the Southeast Asia–Pacific region.

(Added) In July 1941, the US stopped exporting oil to Japan after they expanded in French Indochina. Japan was dependent with US oil, but president Roosevelt saw Japan's military operation in China were a major threat. December 7, 1941 Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, which made the US enter the war. America was fueled from the Pearl Harbor attack. Japanese-Americans were forced to relocate to Internment camps by president Roosevelt's executive orders. Over 120,000 Japanese-Americans were forced to live in poor living conditions. There was no pluming or cooking facilities. Many of the internees were living with 250-300 per hall, which made it the huge mess.
