Medal+Fan Why do we study physics???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think?

OpenStudy (imtiaz7):

To find the reasons behind what is happening around us and how and the things we use in our daily life how it work or these are just magic or the Science...!?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know physics is the the most fundamental science. In physics, we study matter ,energy and their interaction....

OpenStudy (kainui):

Where do computers, microwaves, refrigerators, air conditioners, jets, lightbulbs, and nearly everything that separates us from cavemen come from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

our curious minds always tries to find an explanation towards something its true in all animals. if u take a dog, and do some simple magic trick (make a dog treat disappear).. it ll keep wondering what happened, but since it doesn't have that much of a reasoning power, it won't reason more..Same with human kids, you do some magic.. and they ll be fascinated and try to find out how it works.. our brains always try to think of how something is working when something unusual happens so one reason why we study is because OUR CURIOSITY makes wanna understand more But the most important reason why we study is, because like @Kainui said.. we HAVE THE POWER TO INVENT.. why invent u ask me? TO MAKE OUR LIVES better, more comfortable, more enjoyable, luxurious, more efficient.. (think about communications, and digital books).. and so much more.. all of these inventions can be traced back to some or the other laws of physics which was discovered by some or the other scientist OK.. so people are inventing WHY SHOULD YOU STUDY PHYSICS?? a) you never know, u may be interested.. so we introduce concepts..at some intro level, and if you like it, u pursue it.. else u take something else b) There are still so many unanswered questions.. we are really at an energy crisis.. we still use 200 years old faraday's method to power our world.. all new tech (like solar power) are taking baby steps ... thats how i look at it :)

I like to approach it from the perspective that we are not only living in a physical world, we are a part of the physical world around us. We are made up of a bunch of organic molecules that evolved from a long time line that is all very weird and odd and now we are here. If we were born just about 200 years earlier we would not have internet, airplanes, laser pointers, or even lightbulbs. THAT is not a very long time. We are clearly in the childhood of a great scientific age that has only begun to bloom. Things will get even weirder by the end of the century no doubt. Just think. Your microwave works because the oscillations of the electromagnetic waves are at the same resonant frequency as the bond lengths between oxygen and hydrogen atoms in water. In a sense, the microwave is singing and the water sings with it, and in doing so it vibrates, which is what temperature is. This very simple everyday machine we all use is based on principles that philosophers could only contemplate upon just barely over 100 years ago. They thought that heat was a fluid! They used to think air molecules were really little springs, which was how they explained that when you compress air it pops back! Do you yourself even know why this is? Do you really have enough knowledge to dismiss this claim? How do you know atoms really aren't springs when this observation actually makes sense? Point is, this isn't just physics, this is REALTY we're talking about and interestingly math is a form of modern day magic that allows us to see into the future and create magical structures. At every moment there are invisible signals buzzing around your head, and you don't even think about it. Turn on a cell phone. Turn on a radio and switch through all the channels. They are all around all the time. But this is really just a piece of what humankind can do.
