Using the image below, find the y value for the point that divides the line segment XY into a ratio of 1:2.

myininaya (myininaya):

you are suppose to find the midpoint basically or more importantly just the y of the midpoint to find the midpoint from (a,b) to (c,d) you just do ((a+c)/2,(b+d)/2) and the x-coordinate of the midpoint is then (a+c)/2 and the y-coordinate of the midpoint is (b+d)/2

myininaya (myininaya):

so what is the y coordinate of the X point and the Y point?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=-6,-1 and the y=5,1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@myininaya

myininaya (myininaya):

what is the y coordinates of X and Y?

myininaya (myininaya):

And I think you mean X=(-6,-1) and Y=(5,1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah the x axis is the line in the middle correct?

myininaya (myininaya):

can you tell me the y-coordinates of X and Y

myininaya (myininaya):

and yes x-axis is in the middle so that means y is ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its -1 , 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@myininaya

myininaya (myininaya):

ok to find the y-coordinate of the midpoint (add your y's) then divide the sum by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it will be -1+1 divied by 2

myininaya (myininaya):

(-1+1)/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my bad for late reply internet was down but it is 0 @myininaya

myininaya (myininaya):

yep and you said it looked like the middle was the x-axis and all the y values on the x-axis are 0 since the x-axis is the equation y=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

−0.7 −2.3 −0.3 −0.2

myininaya (myininaya):

what is this?
