i have a question in math can some one help me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe, but only if you tell us what the question is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay what grade u in?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm probably not in a grade any more.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so ummm ummm hmm your out of school?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For quite some time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohokay well im in seventh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and its on surface area of prisms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay hang on let me go to it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not too bad. They give you all the information you need. There are five surfaces, three rectangles and two triangles. Two of the rectangles are the same, and the triangles are also the same. Find the areas for each side, and add them up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay so all you have to times all the sides like the top and botton and side to side and yeah so i do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Formulas to remember: Area of a rectangle = length times width. Area of a triangle = 1/2 base times height. The numbers you need are all on the diagram. Remember that the figure has some symmetry, so if you measure at one end, the corresponding measurement is the same at the other end.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so its like telling me to get the volume?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pretty much. Figure it out and put it on here, I'll let you know if you get it right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not the volume, the surface area. Two different things. Volume is how much water it would take to fill it up. Area is how much flat material it would take to make the shape.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i will and hmm so its like 13*10=130 13*18=234 12*10=120

OpenStudy (anonymous):

13*12=156

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sooo like that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ElvenBlackout have you done this unit and lesson yet so two people can help me:)(:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your calculations aren't all wrong, but you are approaching the problem haphazardly. Do it one step at a time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmmmm ummm what do you mean soo then what do i do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Area of the two triangular ends:\[A_{\triangle}=\frac{1}{2}bh=\frac{1}{2}(10)(12)=60\]Don't forget, there are two such ends.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait soooo you have to ummm times both by half and then times them together?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now, find the area of the two sides that are the same: \[A_s = lw=(13)(18)=234\]Again, recall there are two such sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i have to write the problem like that???????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The area of the base is figured the same way: \[A_b=lw=(10)(18)=180\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, state your question again?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you can, do it in \(LaTeX\) :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ElvenBlackout can you alsohelp me please? and i no you have to times thoes so you have to do length times w and okay ill post it again hang on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and idkhow to do it in LATEX

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now, add them all up:\[2A_{\triangle}+2A_s+A_b=2(60)+2(234)+180=120+468+180=768\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so first you times then you add them all together

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Absolutely. Think about the problem. You want to know how much is there. What's there is the sum of all the sides. Figure out how big each side is, then add them up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so first you times all the sides together and then you add them all together and then you get your answer. thanks so muck @AnimalAin !!! and what it is asking me is for what letters and so i no what letters now and now i no how to do that:)(: thanks!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay can some one help me please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ElvenBlackout @MelissaHolmes @melacho

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am kinda braindead right now... my dad is coming home and i am on my tablet...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay hmmm well can some one help me please @kmullis6 @MommyHelper @ballerina_at_heart @bakonloverk @jontonbon some one please???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hartnn

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Preetha @SeaTurtle113 @iambatman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can't help her because my brain is dead, but can you guys?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@BTaylor @thomaster

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@aprilann143 @Shay17 @foreverjennnicole @johnweldon1993 @MyChem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@wildchild588

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can some one help me to understand this please???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they gave you 18 so what do you think 18 is in this problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 18*13 right? cuz you go to B and C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait so all you do is A,B and CD so you have to add thos and then you will have E left over so i think you leave E

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are you trying to do find the area of the face b ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to times A,B and get that answer then you have to find C,D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b's base is 18 and height is 10 so yes you multiple the base times the height

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh... its telling me to find A.D and B,C and then E

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks @Shay17
