OpenStudy (darkigloo):

(calculus) Can someone explain why x=3 is neither a relative max or min?...

OpenStudy (mathmale):

The equation x=3 represents a vertical line through x=3 on the x- or horizontal axis. It's NOT a point; it's a line. A max or min is a POINT on a curve.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Perhaps I'm overlooking something, but I see no connection between Question 5 Part c and the line x=3.

OpenStudy (darkigloo):

Question 5 asks tind the x-coordinate of each critical point of h(x)=g(x)-(1/2)x^2 and they give the graph of g'(x). I found the critical points x=sqrt 2 and x=3. But the answer says h(x) has neither a max or min at x=3.
