How do you get Moderator?
And Ambassador. I have been doing Openstudy.com for a while but when I answer a question correctly and show how to do it they don't give me a medal.
Moderators are the ones who moderate OpenStudy (ofc) (^_^). Along with helping people like us, they also check to see if the chats are staying appropriate and clean, handle situations involving trolls, inappropriate users/posts, and reported users. They also can help you with I think there are strict requirements... ~> I think you must be eighteen (or older) ~> I also think you must be very familiar with OpenStudy ~> No offenses/reports in your record ~> Be familiar with the Code of Conduct and Terms of Use ~> Know how to speak to someone, like not using slang, using professional language and supporting OpenStudy (like not saying bad things about OpenStudy). You always have to be kind and positive ~> Speaking of positive, you must always have positive behavior. If you are in a bad mood, you shouldn't come. ;) ~> Again, please remember to follow the Code of Conduct ALL THE TIME. :) For more about the actual process of becoming a moderator, I will call @thomaster to explain more. :) He can also correct me if I have anything wrong. :D
Okay, thank you.
I also think there is a requirement of having been here for at least six months, but there are moderators who have become moderators having been hear less than six...(probably because they show very much responsibility)
And Thomaster is offline
Well let's be patient and wait for him to come. I think he is the one who can explain this to you the best. ;D
I found out that:
Hi, Ambassadors are representatives of OpenStudy. We answer questions from new users. We welcome and greet users. It's our job to be the embodiment of OpenStudy's ideologies. Before I go any further, there are strict requirements you must meet. ◘ Be thirteen or older ◘ Have a form of ID - excluding a birth certificate ◘ Have no serious offenses on your record ◘ If you have serious offenses, an additional process may be required ◘ Have read the Code of Conduct and Terms, and understand the rules Do you meet these requirements? If so, then please read the next part of the process. There are some key behaviors that Ambassadors must express ◘ As an Ambassador, you agree to always be kind and understanding ◘ As an Ambassador you should let users know you appreciate them ◘ Congratulate and award positive behavior, and discourage negative behavior ◘ Lead by example! ◘ Respect the staff - never talk ill of OpenStudy ◘ Never disclose personal information if shared with you Do you feel like Ambassadorship is something you would want to do? Do you want a bright future with OpenStudy? Then become an Ambassador! [NOTE: The application, or form, is often subject to change. A message will be posted in either the Ambassador Group or OpenStudy Feedback with details on how to submit an application] You can contact @e.mccormick , @thomaster , @blues or @bostonblue for additional Ambassador opportunities. [[WE ARE CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS]] OpenStudy Ⓐ
Hm...this is if you want to apply to e an ambassador. :)
Read my first reply :)
Ah! I see now. Well, yes, that is very good explanation of hwat you have to do to become an ambassador, and we are always accepting applications...it is just that the next time they choose the actual new ambassadors is in June I think. Also, I understand what you mean when you answer and explain, and you get no medal. I actually get that a lot probably because I help a lot of new people and they don't really know how to give them. If no one else has answered the question and I am *positive* that I haven't gotten a medal, I politely ask and give them the directions and I also tell them to remember to use it in future posts when someone else answers their question. ;D
Okay. :)
You can also try giving people a medal for asking. Might make them wonder what the medals are about.
True. ;D

Which isn't completely true. A lot of moderators have reports on their record, and some have offenses. You just can't have any major offenses.
@Compassionate I was once suspended for an entire week. Is that a major offense? :P
Oh okay. Thank you for correcting me @Compassionate . I appreciate it. ;D
I don't know. @KingGeorge hit me for four days once. Go ask him (;
And thanks for the medal @thomaster , @esshotwired , and @blues. :D
Oke now it's my turn: \(\Huge\sf How\ to\ become\ a\ moderator:\) First rule: You must be 18+, due to legal issues. Second rule: You have to be, and act mature. Then you have to win the respect of this community through interaction, knowledge and the ability to interact and intervene in an appropriate manner. It is in big part based on participation, courtesy and respect. The most important thing is that you let the administrators and moderators know that you can see things going awry, and that you are willing to make some effort to solve/prevent it. And certainly NOT in a way like messaging them about how bad you want to be a moderator (this will only work contradictory), but they have to notice that you are up for the job. Then, when they decide they need more moderators, you might get asked. \(\sf\LARGE Things\ that\ will\ certainly\ help:\) ◘ Being on the site for a fair amount of time. (usually more than 6 months) ◘ Be an good and active user on the site ◘ Having a squeaky clean abuse record. ◘ Have good rapport with fellow users. ◘ Having a good sense of justice. ◘ Being an expert in some field. Most of the mods are math geniuses. But any subject would suffice. ◘ Doing a great job in the ambassador program. In the ambassador training period, you'll learn how the rules work on OpenStudy and you'll learn how to make the right decisions. ◘ Hope you'll get lucky when they decide to add more moderators! \(\bf\Large\color{#00B4ff}{Open}\color{#7cc517}{Study}\color{white}{\mathbb{\ \bbox[2pt, #872af0]{MOD}}}\)
10/10. Am going to steal and add to my Notebook.
Still revising it :P, but feel free to to use it. Note that it's not really a guide, it's more like eligibility conditions. You can't try or pretend to be suitable, you already have to be.
I agree. The same goes for Ambassadors. Either you have it in you or you don't. Hard work pays off.
The biggest mistake people make in trying to get to be a moderator is in not being moderate. If you can't forgive and work with people, it is not going to fly well. Sure, there is a point where people just get longer and longer suspensions, but it does not start that way.
wow no this makes me want to be a ambassador lol :) Sign me up Please
@Compassionate @thomaster Sir, recently few days before I met a user "Koikkara'', I think he does most of the points explained here. Is he an amby like others ? I met him when he welcomed me in the chat, gives some greetings, and leaves making everyone smile. Wondering, why he does jobs like most of the amby should do, but never does like koikkara. I think he is little weird, still he is nice. i would like to know, Is there any option to meet offline User ?
People can choose to be nice without being part of the Ambassador program. Otherwise, we would not have a pool of candidates for the program.
Sir, i didn't understand... means ?
You do not have to be an ambassador to welcome people, to answer questions politely, to help people get to know the site, etc. Wolf8 does a lot of this, and he has never been an ambassador. FibonacciChick666 has pointed out the proper way to answer things, and is not an ambassador. These are just users that follow and promote the culture of OpenStudy as defined in the Code of Conduct and Terms: http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct http://openstudy.com/terms-and-conditions
Well, hopefully one day I will become a MOD, because MOD's are awesome.
