How do you identify a rational number? (Award is Fan & Medal, goes to first answer)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Add the two numbers together. To do this, you must first make the denominators equal. One way to do this is to multiply the two denominators and put that number as the denominator of the new number, then multiply each numerator by the denominator of the other fraction. Then add the two numerators. For example, to add 1/3 and 2/5, first multiply the denominators: 3*5 = 15. This is the common denominator for both fractions. Then calculate 1*5 = 5, for the numerator of the first fraction, which is now 5/15. Then calculate 2*3 for the numerator of the second fraction, which is now 6/15. Then add the two numerators (5 + 6) and use the same denominator to get 11/15. i hope this helps
