sammixboo (sammixboo):

Yesterday, Asher ran 3 miles in twenty-six minutes. Today, he ran 5 miles in forty-four minutes. The function that describes the relationship between the number of miles he ran and the time he ran is a linear function. How long will he run tomorrow if he runs 7 miles? Explain. I know it will take him 56 minutes to run 7 miles, but I didn't use the correct way to get it, so I don't know how to explain it.

OpenStudy (jlg030597):

wow asher is one very slow lol js ill help you with the problem though

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Haha Ikr. He is slow >.> I was thinking the same thing

OpenStudy (jlg030597):

ok so first off divide 26 by three and get his mile time

OpenStudy (jlg030597):

it takes him 8-9 minutes to run a mile correct

sammixboo (sammixboo):

8.2?

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Yes.

OpenStudy (jlg030597):

yes which is 8:20 mile and no offense to him he is super slow my advice to him stick to video games cause i run cross country and I ran a 5k or 3.1 miles in 18:31 and mile time was 5:58

OpenStudy (jlg030597):

so if you take that time 8:20 8:20 8:20 8:20 8:20 8:20 8:20+ 57:40

OpenStudy (jlg030597):

so almost 58 minutes to run 7 miles but thats if he keeps a solid 8:20 mile time each mile which is really really hard to do

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Okay, so basically you take that time and multiply it by 7, so 8:20 x 7

OpenStudy (jlg030597):

Yes cause you take the mile time and and just multiply how many miles that he predicted he was gonna and youve got your time as a decimal but it can be changed to 57:40

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Ok, thanks.

OpenStudy (jlg030597):

is that helpful i hope so cause I dont want you to get it wrong cause of me

sammixboo (sammixboo):

It is helpful. Thanks

OpenStudy (jlg030597):

your welcome glad i could help ya
