OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Can someone explain to me what the protagonist of a story is? I have no clue.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because we know the story

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh its that one guy that does the courageous thing

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

huh?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

@SectorZ423 , please limit your "humour" in questions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Omg sorry its so early

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I need to analyze the protagonist of a story I read, I just dont know what that is.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

The protagonist is the "main-main" character. It is like the leading character. A lot of people think it is the "good guy" and even though it is most of the time, it really isn't all the time. Let's try to give you an example. In Cinderella, the protagonist is Cinderella.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*Sigh* lets look at the prefixes. Pro means good there you go.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

And @SectorZ423 , if you cannot come in morning, then don't log on. It is always important to have a positive attitude, especially since you are representing OpenStudy and also yourself. :)

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

A protagonist isn't always good sector...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I always thought they were

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

OH that makes sense @kewlgeek555 but my story has 4 main characters, its about 4 people who are stuck on a dinghy after a horrific ship wreck. They are all pretty equal. What do I do then?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

For example, in "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West", the Wicked Witch of the West is the protagonist. Do you know who the leading character is? The one that the story focuses on the most?

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Well, like I said, it doesn't really focus one just 1 person, the story focuses on all four of the people equally. >.<

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Thank you for always helping me by the way ^-^ @kewlgeek555

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would that make them all 4 protagonists?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Let me try to help you...what is the book?

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Umm.. Its a short story, And I have to complete a worksheet on it, Let me see if I can attach it to this thingy..

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Here's the worksheet:

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

@kewlgeek555 Did you get them ok?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

I believe I did. What I am trying to do now is to see if there can be more than one protagonist...if so then the four men would be the protagonists and the person/thing against them would be the antagonist.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

The ocean and the boat its self is the antagonist right? >.<

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

I couldn't find a reliable site that confirms there can be more than one protagonist, but I found this that can help a lot: "Can there be more than one protagonist in a story? In the book The Son of Neptune, there are three heroes. Every three chapters or so, the book switches perspective from each of the three main characters. They tell about their life story, how they save the day, and what-not. I need to know for my book report due on January 11th 2012. Update 1: The other thing is, they all do an equal amount of work to bring down the antagonist. It's really hard to decide. Harry, Ron, and Hermione's stories were told throughout all the stories. Still "Harry Potter." Only one protagonist, even if usually more than one main character. Who do you see the most and who do you end up caring the most about? Chances are good - that's the protagonist. (Okay, I'm a woman, so I cared about Hermione, but, hey, I still knew it was Harry. lol)" And whatever is against the protagonist is the antagonist.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

(i think the waves are the antagonist) (>.>) (<.<) shhh ;)

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Lol! I'm also having trouble finding the quote I need, showing who is the protagonist. I dont know if you read it, but can you scan through it real fast? I just need 1 person to label as the protagonist.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I've read sections I through V.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

@kewlgeek555 ;-;

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

The captain...

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Really? It's not the cook?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

This is hard. lolo. Okay, um, the four characters are the oiler, captian, corespondent, and cook, right?

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Yes, they are all on a dinghy after a ship wreck, and they take turns rowing and stuff, and they keep trying to get to land, but they cant because the water is to rough, So they are going north because a man with a coat was waving in that direction. (>.>)

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Who is the one who does most of the work, or who deals with the waves the most?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Actually, the one who deals with the waves the most. (sorry i cant read it, i actually am doing a math test while helping)

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Um, Let me look over it again. brb

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I think that the captain is the main character, I mean, he does command everyone on the dinghy.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I just cant find a quote to back it up.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Whattabout the commands?

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Oh, yeah thats true. Let me seeeee

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Okay, I will be back in ten minutes. c:

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

okay!

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Oops. I came back in an hour. #fail Sorry, this quadratics test. >.< Did you find a quote? c:
