What does it say at the top of this poster that has been around the Internet for a while? http://www.flutterby.com/archives/photo.cgi?id=3737
函數操: "函數" means functions (with a mathematical sense)
"操" is when you move your hands and feet to exercise yourself, not necessarily sports, but maybe some exercises
So it basically means function exercise
The Simplified Chinese version is: 函数操
"操" is hard to translate into English... Some exercises (with a sports sense) involving only your body...
But not really involving that much energy
Thanks!
You're welcome.
Is "操" what you would write for t'ai chi?
"tai chi" in hanzi characters is "太極" (traditional) and "太极" (simplified), first attested in "Ten Wings", etymology unknown. It belongs to the category "拳" (literally fist, meaning martial arts or that kind of thing) "Ten Wings" on English Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Wings
Is this what you mean?
Not exactly. As you were describing the 'type of body exercise not involving to much energy' as the meaning of "操", I was asking if it corresponds roughly to the type of exercise you do while practising tai chi.
"操" would be exercises as opposed to martial arts, which involves a weapon
If not a physical weapon, hand would be the weapon
So "操" would be those without weapon I suppose
Is that clear enough?
could you tutor me omg ;-; im chinese yet i don't know how to speak it....specifically Mandarin.
