Outline the pathway of a breath of air from the nose to the alveoli Nose or mouth Journey down the windpipe After entering the nose or mouth, air travels down the trachea or “windpipe”. The trachea is the tube lying closest to the neck. Behind the trachea is the oesophagus or “food tube”. Air moves down the trachea when we inhale and food moves down the oesophagus when we eat. The path air and food take is controlled by the epiglottis, a gate that prevents food from entering the trachea Route into the lungs The trachea divides into one left and one right breathing tube, termed bronchi. The left bronchus leads to the left lung and the right bronchus leads to the right lung. These breathing tubes continue to divide into smaller tubes called bronchioles The bronchioles end in tiny air sacs called alveoli Describe how pulmonary gas exchange occurs Gases move from an area of high concentration (high pressure) to an area of low concentration (low pressure). As the freshly inspired air in the alveoli is high in O2, the O2 diffuses across the respiratory membrane into the blood where the concentration of O2 is low. This blood is now ‘oxygenated’ and is sent to the tissues of the body for use The blood that has come from the tissues of the body to the alveoli is high in CO2. The CO2 in this ‘deoxygenated’ blood diffuses across the respiratory membrane into the alveoli to an area of low CO2 concentration, and is subsequently expired (breathed out) from the lungs Identify three diseases of the respiratory system, and state what triggers or causes each disease Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) - lung disease causing shortness of breath; Chronic Bronchitis - inflammation and permanent scarring of the bronchial tubes Common Cold - infection caused by a virus What organs make up the gastrointestinal tract ? What are the accessory organs of digestion ? Salivary glands Tongue Teeth Liver Gallbladder Pancreas :D
Hai Sweet Friend, @tanya123 WeLcoMe to OpeN stuDy.. !! HEY, U CAN ASK QUESTIONS, THAT DOESN'T MEAN JUST COPY AND PASTE THE HOMEWORK QUESTIONS GIVEN IN THE SAME ORDER AS IT IS. IF U STILL DON'T KNOW, ASK THEM ONE BY ONE LEARN THEM AND ASK NEXT LIKE OTHERS DO. @Alexaalexi I APPLAUD U FOR UR HARDWORK, UNFORTUNATELY UR HARDWORK DOES NOT HELP HER GAIN ANYTHING OTHER THAN A CHANCE TO COPY AND PASTE.
