a signle die rolled 6 times. what is the probability of getting the sequence 1,2,3,4,5,6?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

=rolling 1 * rolling 2 * rolling 3 * rolling 4 * rolling 5 * rolling 6

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Re: "rolling 1 * rolling 2 * rolling 3 * rolling 4 * rolling 5 * rolling 6:" right idea, but what we're actually multiplying are probabilities: P(1)*P(2)*....

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

Well you know what I mean, he knows what I mean and I know what I mean

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Kenny!!

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

Yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, i've just to multiplying the probabilities?? that's it!! ooh i feel stupid, i thought the answer'll be complex

OpenStudy (mathmale):

(1/6)^6. Does this make sense to you several participants?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

You can transform the question more mathematically into: Find the probability of getting 1 then getting 2 then getting 3 then getting 4 then getting 5 then getting 6.

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

Or even more professionally into: Find the probability of getting 1 in the first roll, and getting 2 in the second roll, and getting 3 in the third roll, and getting 4 in the fourth roll, and getting 5 in the fifth roll, and getting 6 in the sixth roll.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Great!! and then?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

Each piece of the big sentence will be \(\dfrac16\), and the "and"s basically just tell you to multiply them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah it does.. thanks a lot kenny and mathmale you really helped me

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

I'm flattered, no problem :)
