@SmallTrick @kewlgeek555

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I'm slightly familiar with this topic, I"m just not really sure what they are asking..

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Despite the U.S. victory and its gain of land, there were several long-term costs of the Mexican-American War war: 25,000 Mexicans and 12,700 Americans lost their lives. Many died of disease. Mexico lost more than half its territory. U.S. citizens have found great wealth in these areas. The gain of land increased conflict within the United States over the issue of slavery. Americans argued bitterly over whether to allow slavery in the new territories. Mexico demanded payment for losses from Native American raids. The U.S. needed mountain-free land to build a railroad. To solve both problems, the U.S. purchased additional land from Mexico under the Gadsden Purchase in 1853.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I know THAT much, and some other stuff.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I just don't really understand the question?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

I don't either, but let's try... Well, if you see the top on was territories and they weren't like today's territories that had exact borders, ad you can see, the LoneStar Republic had only a part of Texas, while the Disputed Texas Territory has like some of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Colorado. There was no exact borders I guess I would say. The first one is also showing territories, cessions, and purchases, while the other one is showing the natural resources of each state. That's all I really understand...

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

And also, to answer the second question, think of the second map...what is it about? The _____ of the states of the United States...that's something that The United States gained other than land. ;)

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Let me try to comprehend that information.. xD Give me a moment.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't the understand the first question at all... "Describe events that explain the border differences between these maps." Does it want us to describe each event? What does it mean by "explain the border differences"?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

I know @SmallTrick , I didn't understand the first question either, but I tried. cx

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Errm... here this might help with the first question?

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Oh my gosh I dont get this first question at all I'm sorry. >.<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not really I'm still lost as ever the first question doesn't make much sense. >.< Maybe its talking about how the events stopped the US area from expanding?

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Possibly? Let me read a bit more.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Well I gave you border differences I believe of the two maps given. >v>

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you can't figure out anything else, I suggest you go with @kewlgeek555 but if you can tell your teacher that the question makes no sense >.>

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Heres my notes to go along with the maps I recently showed you, they said use those to help with the first question: 1783- U.s extended from the Atlantic to the Mississippi River 1803- U.S. purchased Louisiana territory from France 1819- Western part of Florida was annexed, or taken possession of by the U.S. The eastern part was given during the Adam - Onis treaty. 1845- Texas was annexed, which led to the Mexican War. 1848- The southwest part of the U.S. was ceded by mexico following the Mexican- American war.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Yeah, the best thing is to call your teacher. \o/ (unless she's an evil alligator >v>)

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Can that help? I really don't know what else to do ;-; It's Sunday, so I cant call my teacher.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Here is an answer to the second question: Besides land the United States had gained resources and materials from the expansion. Materials such as Coal, Gold, and Oil. They received Gold from California due to the California gold rush. They received oil from Texas and other states near it. Coal came from the North East and allowed for industrialization. This is what the United States gained other than land.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Put a comma between land and the in the first sentence. In the second sentence put "It gained materials...". Not sure if the last sentence is necessary. cx And I understand your Sunday Homework pains. x.x I am doing a math exam. ;-;

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Oh, I hate math >.< Is this a good answer to question 1? Sorry if it kind of has a lot of run-on sentences. Oregon Territory 1846, Mexican Cession 1848, Gadsden Purchase 1853, Disputed Texas Territory 1848, and Lonestar Republic 1845 were the border differences between the maps. Britiain and the U.S. claimed Oregon territory but neither of them wanted war so the president around that time who was James Polk accepted the boundary at the 49th parallel. When Mexico couldn't fight no more and the U.S. and Mexico agreed to the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. When Mexico ceded more than a half-million square miles of land they called the land Mexican Cession.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your notes actually do help the question make more sense ^.^ Describe events that explain the border differences between these maps. Use information from the maps and the lesson in your response. Use complete sentences. The border differences of the maps show is the U.S. expanding! In 1783 the U.S. map expands to the Mississippi river. In 1803 the U.S. map expanded over the Louisiana territory because they purchased it from France. In 1819 the U.S. map expanded to the western part of Florida, later the eastern part of Florida was given during the Adam - Onis treaty. In 1845 Texas was annexed, which led to the Mexican War and the famous phrase, "Remember the Alamo." This again caused the U.S. territory to expand into the north part of Texas. In 1849 the southern part of Texas wanted to leave Mexico and join America, which lead to the American-Mexican war, and the U.S. won, which again lead the U.S. territory and map to expanded into now known Texas.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Yay! ^-^ Go Notes o-o let me read what you said..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Besides land, what did the United States gain from expansion? Use information from the maps and the lesson in your response. Use complete sentences. Besides land the United States gained resources from expansion. In the 1783 expansion the U.S. gained gold, oil and coal. In 1803 the U.S. gained a lot more gold, some oil and coal. The 1819 expansion of the U.S. gained no notable resources. (At least the map doesn't show Florida having anything.) In the 1845 expansion coal and oil were gained, this being the same in 1848. (Coal and oil were gained.)
