\[x= 1/15 (1761+\sqrt{?}3521)\]

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

@piggy pay no attention to @david111 who is feeding you complete bs... \[x^2-16x+55=0\]Can you think of two (negative) factors of 55 that add to -16?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

@david111 : I have to agree that your \[x= 1/15 (1761+\sqrt{?}3521)\] is very far off. How did you obtain that result?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ x }{ x ^{16} } +55 = 0\]

OpenStudy (mathmale):

@piggy: The expression you posted, x^-16x+55=0, should most likely have been \[x^2-16x+55=0\] That missing exponent (2) led to whpalmer4's inserting that exponent himself before attempting to help you, and sent david111 off on a different path due to her different interpretation of your problem statement. Please check the accuracy of what you type in before pressing that Post button, OK? Hope you will now try to solve \[x^2-16x+55=0\]Please follow whpalmer4's suggestion.
