f-1(4) when f(x) = 3x minus 4, all over 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I wind up getting y=(5x+4)/3 But I dont know what to do with the part that has f(4)... Do I plug in 4 for my x or my y value

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 would be your x value.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you sure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The generic format would be f(x), so if you plug in a number between the parentheses, you substitute that number for x. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know but when I have f-1 that is the inverse and i thought maybe it would mean f-1(y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I remember that f(x) and f-1(y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not sure, but I think it's talking about the inverse of x..

Okay thanks
