OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Which box-and-whisker plot shows the high temperatures in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, during the first two weeks of March: 42, 51, 54, 46, 49, 53, 52, 37, 33, 36, 50, 41, 50, 38

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

@mathslover

mathslover (mathslover):

I actually am not sure about this question, but in the above given series, can you tell me what is the highest and lowest temperatures?

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

33, and 54

mathslover (mathslover):

Correct, then check in the images you attached, which has their dots at "54" and "33"

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Oh, boy, this will be painstaking to do. Mathslover, if you need an extra brain, let me know.

mathslover (mathslover):

lol @Compassionate - Thanks for such a good offer. But , no thanks, I think I have enough brain for myself, let me know if you need extra brain :P

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

All of them

Start by listing all your values from least to greatest. Find the median Use this point to separate the data into a high set and a low set Find the median of the low set and the high set. These values will correspond to the points on the box and whisker plot (Q1,Q2,Q3,Q4)

mathslover (mathslover):

@KendrickLamar2014 - Sorry, I don't know much about such type of plots. Never studied in past!

OpenStudy (compassionate):

33,36,37,38,41,42,46,49,50,50,51,52,53,54 Total numbers: 14 Mean (average): 45 Median: (46+49)/2 = 47 Mode = 50 → The whiskers tell you essential the spread of all the data. The range is given by the right whisker - the left whisper. → The Line in the middle is the Median. Your median should be 47. It tells us half of the temperatures are less than 47, and half are higher than 47. Only image two and four are located on 47. That reduces it to 50/50. ▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The median is 47.5

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

So, its either B, or D

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

whats the next step?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

38 and 51 are the other two critical numbers

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Ok, is the answer B?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey man ur on this test too??? can u help me wid the second question im stuck on it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Im not on no test?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol liar

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Thanks @jscarfpin
