If all the books weigh identically the same. Assumptions assumptions.

This problem is worth figuring out on your own. Think about a simple problem: if all the books you have weigh a total of 1 pound and you have 1 book, how much does it weigh? what math do you use to figure out the answer? now try this one: if all the books weigh 1 pound and you have 2 books, how much does each weigh ? can you answer those questions ?
divide?
what by what ?
pound by book
good. that is the basic idea
i did 256 X 24 = 6144 books divided by 12,720 pounds?
now how to use it for this problem? the weight is weigh a total of 12,720 pounds, that part is easy. but you also need the *number of books* any idea how to figure out how many books you have ?
256 X 24 = 6144
right?
right idea, but wrong numbers
it is 265 (not 256)
oops
i got 0.5 pounds
per book
The important part is understanding the "big picture", divide weight by number of books to get pounds per book the other important part is being careful when you work the numbers. you should get \[ \frac{12720 \text{ pounds}}{6360 \text{ books}} \] I think you get 2 pounds/book often spoken as "2 pounds per book"
ah okay thanks for the explanations its more clear now
