GIVING OUT MEDALS! Why do governments regulate natural monopolies? To allow only certain consumers to have access to goods and services To have access to the resources when national security is at risk To prevent prices from rising too high and to increase efficiency To prevent single suppliers from continuing to dominate a market

The third one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you know @Lo-Siento-Mi-Amor ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Natural monopolies are those such as utility companies, one electric company starts up and sets up power plants, power lines, pipes, and everything else needed and provides the service. Other companies interested in this business would have to build and gather all needed equipment to provide this service, THEN they would have to try and get customers while already being in debt and trying to compete with an already established company, so they forego it. The First electric company then is the only provider and could raise prices sky high because you have to pay it, if not your without electricity. That's why the government regulates it.

How does the government help ensure fair prices for all citizens of a particular area served by one utility company? By imposing taxes on the wealthy citizens By setting the price for utilities across the country By negotiating affordable rates with the supplier By passing legislation to prevent a monopoly @Lo-Siento-Mi-Amor
