OpenStudy (staceyg):

For the equation -4y=8x, what is the constant of variation?

OpenStudy (staceyg):

@OrangeMaster

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know. I am only good at finding the slope from two given points. Someone else will probably help soon though. Sorry that I don't know.

OpenStudy (staceyg):

It's alright. Thanks anyway.

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

what does CONSTANT OF VARIATION mean? you need to know what is being asked fore you can tackle it.

OpenStudy (staceyg):

the ratio of two variables that are in direct variation?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

AN EXAMPLE so let us say you have \[y = \frac{ 3 }{ 4 }x\] the constant of variation is 3/4

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

so in summary, in the form y= kx k is the constant of variation

OpenStudy (staceyg):

Thanks. So its -2 right?

OpenStudy (staceyg):

you just dived y by x basically?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

:) it seems that you can solve after all

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

no. you find y by itself just like you did

OpenStudy (staceyg):

Oh then I got the answer the wrong way lol.

OpenStudy (staceyg):

So exactly how are you suppose to find k (constant of variation) with x and y?

OpenStudy (staceyg):

@nincompoop
