OpenStudy (lilai3):

What is the name of the sun's surface layer? @hartnn @AccessDenied

OpenStudy (lilai3):

okay thank you.

OpenStudy (lilai3):

wait are you sure it's not photosphere? i think it's photosphere...maybe....okay...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Photosphere is the visible surface of the sun.

OpenStudy (lilai3):

yes okay. thank you vandreigan. so pselena is wrong right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The chromosphere is a layer of the atmosphere of the sun. It's about 500km above the visible surface of the sun.

OpenStudy (lilai3):

oh i see. thank you. would you mind helping me some more vocab?

OpenStudy (lilai3):

What is the trapping of heat by the atmosphere?

OpenStudy (lilai3):

@agent0smith

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you mean by the atmosphere of a planet, it's usually called "the greenhouse effect"

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

The surface of the Sun, called the photosphere. A small region known as the chromosphere lies above the photosphere.

OpenStudy (lilai3):

Yeah, it's green house effect, thanks vandreigan, again.

OpenStudy (lilai3):

What is a description of the solar system in which all the planets revolve around earth?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's the model with the sun in the center.

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Oh misread it as, around the Sun (lazy reading/assuming)

OpenStudy (lilai3):

oh LOL :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Earth-centric, Terra-centric? Something like that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Geocentric?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

^google agrees

OpenStudy (lilai3):

LOL okay thanks!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not a word we use often in astrophysics :P

OpenStudy (lilai3):

LOL What are reddish loops of gas that connect different parts of sunspot regions?

OpenStudy (lilai3):

(hint 11 letters)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solar Prominences

OpenStudy (lilai3):

oh yeah. thanks. What are areas of gas on the sun that are cooler than the gases around them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sun Spots are usually cooler than the surrounding gas. Likely what they want.

OpenStudy (lilai3):

dang you good at solar system stuff. i can't even remember why jupiter is famous (great red spot.. oh hey i remembered! LOL X"D )

OpenStudy (lilai3):

uh, it's 8 letters but one word for that last question...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sunspots

OpenStudy (lilai3):

oh wait really? oh

OpenStudy (lilai3):

What is a stream of electrically charged particles sent out by the corona called?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Coronal Mass Ejection

OpenStudy (lilai3):

first word has 5 letters, second word has 4...

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Solar wind?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmm probably

OpenStudy (lilai3):

uh really? or are you just guessing? never heard of that b4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's a real thing, but it's hard to tell what they want. It's a rather vague question. The sun sends out lots of things in what could be described as "streams," but differ based on how it happens, and some other factors.

OpenStudy (lilai3):

so it IS solar winds?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Well that would make sense, 5 then 4 letters. And that's what it is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can't think of anything else that fits that letter length for the words.

OpenStudy (lilai3):

kk

OpenStudy (lilai3):

What does heliocentric mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The sun is in the center.

OpenStudy (lilai3):

THat the solar system revolves around the SUN right? I am right, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep

OpenStudy (lilai3):

YES!

OpenStudy (lilai3):

Explain what causes a meteoroid to become a meteorite.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, a meteoroid is a piece of rock, ice, etc. in space. If it hits Earth's atmosphere, it can create a visible "trail" called a "meteor." If part of the meteoroid actually survives the fall to Earth, it's called a meteorite. So what causes a meteoroid to become a meteorite is it falling to Earth.

OpenStudy (lilai3):

Oh. Describe these parts of a comet: head, nucleus, coma, tail.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm sorry, but I have to head to bed. You can google these questions, though. Just google "parts of a comet," and you can find your answer in the first few hits. Good luck!

OpenStudy (lilai3):

crap! this was my last questions~!!!

OpenStudy (lilai3):

uh, are you still going to help me tho??

OpenStudy (lilai3):

aww okay. bye. and THANKS SO MUCH
