can you help

OpenStudy (alekos):

perimeter of what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perimeter of a rectangle

OpenStudy (mathmale):

You're not getting responses because your problem statement is incomplete. Make certain that you've copied down every word of the problem and included the illustration if there was one.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Once you've done that, alekos or I would be happy to help you with this problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perimeter of a rectangle is 72 find the area

OpenStudy (mathmale):

If you really have no further info, then the best we can do is to talk in terms of variables L and W, where L = length and W = width of the rectangle. You say the perimeter is 72. What's the formula for perimeter (of a rectangle)? What's the formula for the area of a rectangle, given that its length is L and its width is W?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

formula for perimeter is 2(l+b) are l x b now???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathmale , @ParthKohli

OpenStudy (mathmale):

L and W (not 2 and b) can't be found without further info. What is the perimeter (as a formula)? What is the perimeter (as a number)? Write the appropriate formula. Also, please write the formula for the area of a rectangle (I asked you to do that earlier).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im confused

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Let's start with definitions :-)

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

The perimeter of a plain figure is the distance around it. P=2l+2w

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

You are told P=72 what are the units?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

..."plain figure" ? The perimeter of a rectangle is the sum of its sides: P=2L+2W.

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

we still need units of measure? cm, m. inches, feet...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 72cm

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Ok so 72cm = 2l+2w

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Now for area, the area of a region is the number of square units it contains A=lw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and whats l and w?????

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

l = length of rectangle, w= width of rectangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

l is what cms and w is what cms

OpenStudy (mathmale):

As I told you before, we will not be able to find L and W as specific numeric values. All you can do is the express the area in terms of L and W OR in terms of just one of them. I explained earlier what L and W mean: If you really have no further info, then the best we can do is to talk in terms of variables L and W, where L = length and W = width of the rectangle.
