Well to do this, you would need to use Pythagorean theorem. \[a ^{2}+b ^{2}=c ^{2}\] So for this question, you would use the equation: \[5^{2}+8^{2}=c ^{2}\] Do you know what to do next?

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

it would be 25 + 64 = c^2 Which you would turn into 89 = c^2 So what would you do now to find c?

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

You would have to find the square roots of both sides to cancel out the ^2 with the c. \[\sqrt{89}=\sqrt{c ^{2}}\] Then this would turn into just \[\sqrt{89}\]

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

Yeah! Okay!! Thank you! Can you help me with another one? Just one...?

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

Lol sure :P

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

Thanks! I'll open up another question for ya.

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

Okiez
