Standard form ??? someone knows about it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did u figure it out? if not the form would be Ax + By = C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pont A: (1, 2) Point B (0, 3) Determine the equation of the line, in standard form from the point A to Point B. ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya sure just hold on a minute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so think of point A like this: (x1,y1) and point B like this: (x2,y2) to find the equation of any line, you would first have to find the slope using m= y2-y1 / x2-x1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this website is helpful as well if you are confused by my explanation http://coolmath.com/algebra/08-lines/06-finding-slope-line-given-two-points-01.htm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y1 would be 2 because your point A (1,2) (x1,y1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry , wrong questin lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me think just a min

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok sure, no problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then what would be the standard form for this one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well first you have to find the equation of the line then you can put it into standard form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

once you find the slope put it into this equation y=mx+b m=slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can use either point A or Point B for x and y to find the "b"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did you find the slope yet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it should be -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeep, i got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what i have to do now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok good. now put either point a or b into this formula: y=mx+b to find b.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=-1x+b .. so B= y-x ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um close. if you use Point A (1, 2) you would write the equation like this: 3=(-1)(1) + b if you use point B (0,3) you would write it as 2 = (-1)(0) + b then solve for b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops i meant the opposite, soorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use point A 2= (-1)(0) + b and point B 3= (-1)(1) + b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have to use both?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no just one. whichever one you like.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So .. 2=(-1)(0) + b . B=2 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh my gosh im so sorry. i messed them up again. the equation should be 3=(-1)(0) + B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for point B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use this equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so b=3 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now write the equation again with only m and b having values

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=mx + b would turn into y=(-1)x + 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then now you can finally put it into standard form Ax + By = C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try to keep A always positive and make sure it never has a fraction for future problems

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But i dont have A , I just have the slope and b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm confused. i'm really bad in math lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thats right but A has x in it so that would be your slope. you would bring the -1x to the left side of the equation. and your C you be your b,. y=-1x + 3 would be 1x + y = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeep, now i got it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so my Standard form would be 1x+y=3 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kk glad i could help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thaaaank you so much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and yes that you be your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you! :)))
