A book is on the table. If the weight of the book is 25 newtons, what is the magnitude and direction of the normal force? 2.5 newtons in the downward direction 2.5 newtons in the upward direction 25 newtons in the upward direction 25 newtons in the downward direction 25 newtons perpendicular to the gravitational force
@amistre64 can you help?
@mathmale can you help?
@PenguinLove_96 can you help me with this question?
O.O Ughhh its to early to know. Im so sorry.
Since the weight of the book is 25 newtons that means, in other words, that gravity is exerting a total force of 25 newtons on the book. We know \[F = ma\] in case we need it. But given the gravitational force what do we know about the normal force?
its cool @PenguinLove_96
im not sure still confused bout your question your asking @azolotor
nvm its perpendicular right?
Not quite. Do you remember Newton's 3rd law?
so its having a action and reaction force?
Close. Newton's 3rd law says for every action there is an equal and OPPOSITE reaction. In other words, for every force there is an equal and opposite force. So, if gravity is exerting a downward force for 25 newtons then by newtons third law the what would be the reaction from the normal force?
a 25 newton upward force?
You got it! Good job!
@azolotor thanks mann
