The solution to which inequality is shown? A. y + 5 > –2 B. y + 5 ≥ –2 C. y + 5 < –2 D. y + 5 ≤ –2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (muzzack):

A out of the question and D

OpenStudy (muzzack):

i mean B

OpenStudy (muzzack):

first isolate the y

OpenStudy (muzzack):

on C and D

OpenStudy (muzzack):

cant give out answers only guide you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do I do next?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

open circle means there is no equal sign in the problem shading to the right means (>) greater then so your answer to the graph is y > -7 now you just have to solve the inequalities and see which one gives you that answer. Keep in mind, you can automatically eliminate all the answer choices that contain an equal sign

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

do you know how to solve inequalities ?

OpenStudy (muzzack):

well show me the work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know how to solve them i mean

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

they are basically solved just like equations except for the rule of when dividing/multiplying by a negative number in an inequality will change the inequality sign

OpenStudy (muzzack):

for example 2y + 3 > 4 you've got to isolate y 2y > 4-3 but now you have to divide 2y to both sides so y > 1/2 and graph them like this open circle = >< closed circle = ≥≤

OpenStudy (muzzack):

when it is directing like this: < it would go => when it is directing like this: > it would go <=

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the "open circle = >< closed circle = ≥≤"?

OpenStudy (muzzack):

so you try it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (muzzack):

you see in the pic. there is an open circle around the -7

OpenStudy (muzzack):

so this is telling you that it is ><

OpenStudy (muzzack):

are you understanding

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

open circle means there is no equal sign...so you answers will only contain either < or > closed circle means there is an equal sign...so your answer will contain <= or >=....I cant make that line under the inequality sign

OpenStudy (muzzack):

yeah basically open circle = <or> and closed circle = ≤or≥

OpenStudy (anonymous):

K. but should I add the 5 + (-2) like this?

OpenStudy (muzzack):

thx @texaschic101

OpenStudy (muzzack):

yeah well simplify it and it goes like 5-2 = ? everyone knows

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Never mind. I got it. Thanks!
