Not sure how to do this, any help would be nice

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

What is the volume of that kind of solid? If the solid had a length of 2 in., a width of 3 in., and a height of 4 in., how would you calculate its volume?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lwh lengthxwidthxheight

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Correct. You are given a length, a width, and a height for your solid. Just multiply them together.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

V = lwh V = (h + 12)(2h + 1)(h) Use FOIL for the first product. Can you do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2h^2 - h - 24h - 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry for the delay there

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The numbers are correct, but all signs should be positive because there are no negative signs involved.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, I've always been confused about how that works with FOIL

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

It works just like multiplication. Positive times positive and negative times negative are both positive. Positive times negative and negative times positive are both negative.
