B. You usually put a colon instead of a comma before quotation marks if the quote is longer than 6 words. Roger's teacher told him straight out: "Don't come back to class until all of your work is done."

A. Roger's teacher told him straight out "Don't come back to class until all of your work is done." --> this is wrong because there's no colon. B. Roger's teacher told him straight out: "Don't come back to class until all of your work is done." --> this is correct. C. Roger's teacher told him: straight out, "Don't come back to class until all of your work is done." --> oh my god, no, just no. that is utterly terrible. it makes me cringe. D. Roger's teacher told him straight out "Don't come back to class: until all of your work is done." --> the colon is misused here.
