If I could get someone to help me on this question! 2) http://i.imgur.com/B32B67o.png A. Which two points should you use to find the equation of the model? Explain. B. Use the two points you chose in Part A to find the slope of the linear model, rounded to three decimal places. Show your work. C. What is the equation of the linear model in point-slope form? D. Rearrange the equation you wrote in Part C into slope-intercept form. Show your work.
Okay, for A. you will use two points that are on the line of best fit already, they either need to be ON the line or RIGHT next to it. Then for part B. you will put those points into the slope equation. That is y2-y1 over x2-x1. So you take the 2 points from the line of best fit and then put them into that equation to get slope.
Okay let me try it, will get back to you in a minute.
For A should it be 1x and 14 y and 8x and 4y
Point slope formula is y-y^1=m(x-x^1) Where the m is your slope and y will always be y and the y^1 and x^1 will be one of your points from the line of best fit you chose. Your first point (1x, 14y) is correct. For the second point I would chose (7, 7) it is more on the line.
Perfect so for B I'd write 7y-14y/7x-1x ?
Correct :)
and do I actually subtract the two or is there an easier way to get the answer?
You have to subtract, so it would be -7/6 and that then becomes your slope, which you then plug into the point slope formula for m
So -7/6 when rounded to 3 decimal places is -1.167?
That's correct.
And for C, how do I figure that one out?
Well the point slope formula is y-y^1=m(x-x^1) so your y will stay y and the y^1 is where you chose a point from the line again. Same one, just ONE point not two. So chose (1,14) or (7,7) and then m is your slope and the x is just x and the x^1 is part of your point.
Sorry website stopped working. So for C I put: 14y-7y^2= m(1-7)^2
No it would be y-14=m(x-1) and I m is slope.
And how do I write that equation in slope intercept form?
Well slope intercept is y=mx+b
So I just write down m(x-1) for D then?
i don't know i wove u makaylala
Well yea, except put in your slope for m -1.67.
If your in algebra 1, I feel really bad for you, Im in it too, and its extremely hard. This particular lesson happened to come naturally, it is a very long process but that math is easy. Remember your formulas and the steps. You should be good :) Good luck ! @shanerocks xD "wove" you too
Thanks! So for D I will put down: -1.167/m(x-1)
No, y=-1.167(x-1)
Ah I see, thanks Makayla you've been a great help! Algebra is my worst subject and you helped me big time
Glad I could help, no problem :)
Thanks again, will become your "fan"!
