If you were to use the substitution method to solve the following system, choose the new equation after the expression equivalent to x from the first equation is substituted into the second equation. -x + 5y = 1 2x + 4y = -4 A.) 2(-5y + 1) + 4y = -4 B.) 2x + 4(-5y + 1) = -4 C.) 2x + 4(5y - 1) = -4 D.) 2(5y - 1) + 4y = -4 HELP PLEASE (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know how to manipulate the first equation so that you can substitute it?

OpenStudy (marigirl):

a hint to look for is when we use the method of subsitution, we are only left with one variable. either x or y, so we can straight away get rid of two options from ur list of 4 options. just an idea. then u can do what lonnie455rich said

OpenStudy (marigirl):

why dont u rearrange -x + 5y = 1 and make x the subject.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it couldnt be B nor C ? Right ? @lonnie455rich , @marigirl

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im not sure if im doing this right but i got A ..... @Lonnie455rich

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no tell me what you get when you solve for x. think about the - sign

OpenStudy (marigirl):

when u rearranged -x + 5y = 1, what did u get
