Is evolution and the Koran completely compatible? Please explain you answer, use passages from the Koran to support your opinion.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe not? I am not a Muslim, and my Muslim friend is not online now, but I will tell you my reason. According to what I have read about Islam, they believe in Adam and Eve as the first humans. Evolution is not compatible with the Adam and Eve story. So Islam is incompatible with evolution. If there are any Muslim reading this please correct me if I am wrong.

I cannot help then, sorry :S

Any Muslims here? Please help me. Thanks

Evolution has many theories that demonstrate the change of population over time due to the change of genetics, mutations, natural selection and so forth. Evolution basically means “CHANGE.” This goes back to Charles Darwin, his Theory of Evolution and Natural Selection, well-known for his most stable theory in science. This man worked within his experiment, as in his experiment he sailed to the Galapagos Islands and investigated every e group of birds and tortoises in different environment and gathered fossils to test his hypothesis I mean theory xD. Wow, incredible and intelligent thing to do for a man in the 19th century. Darwinism was all about micro-evolution, the change of a particular specie or population. Micro means short. Genetics weren’t discovered yet in his time period, as you can from Charles Darwin book “On the Origin of Species”, genetics weren’t even mentioned. There’s no way he’d know about it. Not even the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). The DNA was first discovered in the 20th century. This answers why macro evolutionist believe in the idea of us coming from a single bacteria, it is because of genetic studies that emerged. However, scientists have tested DNA’s of other animals and compared them with the human DNA and found out we actually have similar gentic code. Modern evolutionists came up with the theory of Macro-evolution in depth, the idea of change above the species level. Macro means Large. Also, goes by the Universal Genetic Code. This particular gene might be found in any living cell including bacteria and plants. It is obvious there will be a tiny bit of gene in our whole DNA that makes us grow. This concept is very comprehensible, even the ancient time could know that there’s a similarity between living organisms that functions, grows, and decomposes but they had no idea of genetics. Biochemically, living organisms live by the genes to code enzymes. We, as a part of a living cell, function properly by types of atmospheric pressure (oxygen, nitrogen and carbon). And our environment consists of a balanced gravity and temperature that prevents our atmosphere from leaking out of the planet. By the atmosphere that would never ever be found in our entire Solar System. The idea of Macro makes sense to me, but evolution to change? How? Can this living type of cell make plants and bacteria evolve into humans? I mean, we are a lot closer to Plants than bacterial. Our cell and Plant cells are both eukaryotic with a true nucleus whereas a bacterium cell is prokaryotic. Without a true nucleus!. So, it is possible that we evolved from plants other than a bacteria but that’s crazy if it was true. We would be greenie aliens due to chlorophyll lol jk Another info, Plant cells and our cells grow from embryos basically reproduce sexually while bacteria reproduce asexually. Another question. Is there evidence that explains a change of a bacterial reproductive style sexually? I would love to read anything that has been experimented on it yet. Therefore, evolution is a total complex theory (to me basically), along with multiple theories. There are still theories in which I consider more accurate. Yet, the most reasonable of all in my opinion was the first theory. I believe in Darwinism, more reliable than ever. His experiments were done and examined by his own eyes not by relying on prediction.Though, I still don't believe that we came from apes xD

What role does the Quran play a role in this? Allah swt said in the Quran 7:54 Sahih International: “Indeed, your Lord is Allah , who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne. He covers the night with the day, [another night] chasing it rapidly; and [He created] the sun, the moon, and the stars, subjected by His command. Unquestionably, His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah , Lord of the worlds.” Allah SWT in the Quran said that his creation resulted in 6 days. In our collection, a day is determined by earth’s rotation relative to the solar system. 24 hrs is a day in earth, but hours differs with other planet. Sun has its own rotational period, every 27 days at the equator. Our solar system and milky way galaxy too has its own day period. The universe also has its own day period. How long? We don’ know, Allah subhana wata3ala knows the best. Allah swt is much mightier than the universe itself. He’s the creator of the exterior and the interior of our universe. He swt says “Koun Fa Yakoun” be and there it will be. He swt has logic for everything, there’s logic in “Koun Fa Yakoun” and scientist are developing theories on investigating the logic behind our universe. Science indeed confirms the Quran. Not only with this ayah, with a lot more Quranic chapters and ayahs that emphasizes modern scientific discoveries. No way had a man who couldn’t read or write knew about science. Mohammed was Allah swt’s messenger after all. Wrote the words of the Lord, and acknowledged it and did whatever it takes to spread the message. Another ayah and this explains the human creation in the Quran. “It is He Who has created you from dust then from a sperm-drop, then from a leech-like clot; then does he get you out (into the light) as a child: then lets you (grow and) reach your age of full strength; then lets you become old,- though of you there are some who die before;- and lets you reach a term appointed; in order that you may learn wisdom.” [40:67] People back in the 7th century really knew about chromosomes and the embryo is leech like? “Who has created you from dust” apparently everything on earth was created from dust until the appearance of a sperm-drop. Sperms are males gametes which holds on the x and y chromosomes. Sperms is the tool for reproduction and as well as determining a sex of newborn and yet the Quran did mentioned the sperm results a child. So how did they come to know all about it? Also, the Quran did indeed say that “everything is made of pairs” http://www.onislam.net/english/ask-about-islam/faith-and-worship/quran-and-scriptures/167059-all-in-pairs-glory-of-creation.html?Scriptures= Adam wasn’t the first living organism, no, he was the first intelligent mankind to ever appear on earth, and we don’t know for sure what creation was before it. As evolutionist claim fossils, there’s still artifacts that proves the intelligence of mankind. "Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe? ( 21:30)” Evolution does believe in life originates from water. Astro-biologist are suspecting planet Europa to have life because the presence of water. So the Quran explains macro-evolution here. The idea of human ancestry is shared with apes isn’t mentioned in the Quran as for Adam and Eve were the beginners of human creation. Sahih International [Quran 24:45] Allah has created every [living] creature from water. And of them are those that move on their bellies, and of them are those that walk on two legs, and of them are those that walk on four. Allah creates what He wills. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent. One of Allah’s beautiful 99 names is – Al-Bari meaning the Evolver. He is the creator and the all-mighty, He evolves and shapes what he wills. More on the evolution in the Quran http://www.speed-light.info/miracles_of_quran/evolution.htm http://www.miraclesofthequran.com/scientific_57.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHpvXfZhe34 – Yasir Qadhi To answer your question: Is evolution and the Koran COMPLETELY compatible? No. They are not COMPLETELY compatible, but in my opinion the notion that living organisms evolve and are naturally selected is possible according to the Quran.

OpenStudy (zale101):

These are my opinions on evolution and evolution in the Quran. I’m a Muslim, speaks Arabic fluently and a Quran reader since my youthful days. I myself not a scientist or conducted any experiment on evolution. Most of my information from this thread is from scientific studies of a notable scientist, and using ayat from the Quran. There could be flaws in my opinion as well as misconceptions but I may not know it. I’m open to any critics :)

Is it me or does anyone else just love the people who include a small summary at the end of their posts. +1 @Zale101 \(\textbf{Reply to the question:}\) Evolution has long changed from what Darwin simply purposed. I find it as an insult to Darwin to still call it Darwinian evolution. In Islam the Adam and Eve story is literal, by chance it is possible for the Adam and Eve story to be true. By CHANCE, though it is more likely to be not. Modern day evolution is completely compatible if you are willing to hold the small chance that for the Adam and Eve story can be true. There is not any archaeological evidence disproving the story, so under scrutiny it can hold. (This is my opinion.) \(\textbf{Other thread stuff:}\) "Though, I still don't believe that we came from apes xD" I used to hold this view, turns out that only belonged to Darwinian evolution; modern day evolution just says we share a common ancestor. \(\textbf{About me:}\) I am a Muslim, I am learning Arabic (I speak better than I write). I also have a few verses from the Qur'an memorized. I normally do not try to correlate verse from the Qur'an with science, for I do not see the Qur'an as a tool for science; but a block from which everything is built upon. (i.e. morals, guidelines, laws, etc.) The Qur'an is not a literal textbook of science, so it should not be taken as one. Though it does COMPLETELY comply with science. To be honest, I would write a better answer, but Zale's is quite good. She also captures the multiple view points. Anyway the issue is complex, and would best be answered by a scholar. Note: I did not add any verses from the Qur'an for I just wanted to add on my view on top of Zale's answer. :-P

Opcode, is that you? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, my other account 'Opcode' is broken. So for now I post from this account. :-P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I meant that there is not any archaeological evidence as of now that does hinder the Adam and Eve story. The Qur'an does not state whether Adam or Eve were homosapeins or Neanderthals, nor does it say when humans emerged in the time line of evolution. The 6000 years is a creationist issue, the Qur'an does not specific how long ago was the first human or how old the Earth is, which allows the Qur'an to work with evolution.

Ah, I see. Thank you for clearing that up. :-)
