It says "Write an equation of the line containing the given point and parallel to the given line." I keep trying to figure these out, but I'm confused.

Alright, do you know the point-slope formula?

Yeah, y-y^1=m(x-x^1)

Right, now all you have to do is plug in all the information you have into the equation, and put it back into slope-intercept form. Given (8, -2) and m=3/4. Because the slope id parallel, meaning the same as the original equation.

So would it be y-(-2)=3/4(x-8)?

Yes, now just simplify it and get it into \(y=mx+b\) and you'll be set :)
