Help plz What does Bureaucracy do? List some examples/evidences. Why is it bad? List some examples/evidences.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's just a whole bunch of people doing stuff. Paperwork A -> Paperwork B. Making sure everything is right. Why does it suck? 'cause it's inefficient and usually blind to real world conditions. I.E. There's a fire but you'll have to fill out form 1AFE to put it out.

For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRHL5drAkOE

starts at like 0:20.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

excuse the crappy quality.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's not my vid.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i see. is there some history about it? about it taking away ppl's right or why people dont like it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well it's traditionally associated with the inefficiency of the soviet union.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and it wastes so much money

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there's literally an underground bunker where they hand-by-hand process government retirement papers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's not evil. it's just it runs counter to capitalism which emphasizes on cutting costs whereas Bureaucracy is based on being super safe but being super slow and wasteful

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And that's why so many people hate it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i see ty

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Eek! I would not consult a child's TV show when doing your homework. A bureaucracy executes legislative programs and regulates certain industries. There are many different types of bureaucracies, including cabinet department (Department of Defense, State, Labor, Interior, etc.), independent executive agencies (e.g. NASA), independent regulatory agencies (Federal Reserve Board, Securities and Exchange Commission, etc), and government corporations (AMTRAK, US Postal Service, etc.). I wouldn't say that bureaucracies are bad; in fact, most bureaucracies are closer to the industry and the people than the legislative or executive branches. Some examples of what the bureaucracy does: The Federal Communications Commission issues fines when people curse or show "inappropriate" images on public airwaves. The Securities and Exchange Commission enforces laws that regulate the security industry and stocks, among others. The US Postal Service, well, is a federal postage service! They deliver mail. For why the bureaucracy is bad, I would say that they are easily influenced. The executive branch appoints many members of the bureaucracy, and Congress can influence these appointments, as they have to confirm them. Congress also appropriates funds, and can reduce funds in order to get a bureaucratic agency to comply with their desires. Interest groups can lobby bureaucrats by giving them influential information. This makes bureaucracies somewhat unreliable as they can be so easily influenced by sources other than the industry. Bureaucracies are much more complicated than simple paper work and do so much. This was just the tip of the iceberg of bureaucracies. After a quick bit of extra research, another issue with bureaucracies is, in fact, inefficiency! I would do a bit more research to find out more about this and some specific examples, but I don't know enough about bureaucracies to help with that. Good luck!
