I need help with Quadratic Formula f^2+3/2f+1/2=0 Please can explain it to me?

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

The quadratic formula states that if we have a quadratic equation that is equal to zero, we can find the solutions by applying the following equality: \[x=\frac{ -b \pm \sqrt{b ^{2}-4ac}}{ 2a }\] now, it doesn't really have to be "x" it can actually be any variable that satisfy the conditions. wich means, that if we have the problem: \[f ^{2}+\frac{ 3 }{ 2 }f+\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }=0\] we can observe that the variable with highest exponent is 2, so this is a quadratic equation. then, we can find "f" by applying the formula to f and not to x. wich means: \[f=\frac{ -\frac{ 3 }{ 2 } \pm \sqrt{ (\frac{ 3 }{ 2 })^{2}-4(1)(\frac{ 1 }{ 2 } } }{ 2(\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }) }\]
