Sean doesn't remember where he stored a spreadsheet that he downloaded onto his computer the previous day. How can Sean find this file quickly?
By looking into his browser's history
Sean is a very forgetful guy, but the answer to his issue is not in his browser's history. That would show him the page he downloaded it FROM but not necessarily where he saved it to. The actual answer depends on his browser, his operating system, and quite possibly his browsing behaviors. On any microsoft os since windows 98 or so, he could go to a command prompt and use dir/s to do a recursive sub directory search for a file. On a modern windows system, if he uses default directories, he would have a link to his default downloads folder in any windows explorer window. He could also check default download directory for the browser in question in the browsers options, but even that isn't a guaranteed hit as he could have changed the save location manually (that's where behavior comes into play). On a windows machine he could use search from any explorer window, or even from start or windows menu on recent versions. On a mac he could use spotlight, or the finder to find his download, and on a linux system he could use the 'find' or 'locate' command depending on how long ago updatedb was last run.
1. By going into his download folder. 2. By doing a search for the file by entering the file's name into the start menu.
