OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

I NEED HELP NOW!!! i WILL GIVE A MEDAL!!!

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where are the figures?

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

on the attachment

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

it is a square and a cylinder

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can try and walk you through it if u want

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first do you know what an expression is

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay well then you first have to do is find the surface area by using the surface area equation and then find the volume using the equation that is used to find the volume. I dont know these two equations in my head but if you dont either just google them..let me know when you get done with that

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

I already tried to google them and ok, I will look at it!

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

but that is for a triangular prism

OpenStudy (anonymous):

google it..i said i wasnt sure so i did and thats what came up..u try google it

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

right or rectangular prism V = lwh that's what I got

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay what did you get for the surface area equation? And then you also need to find the volume of the figures you have

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

right cylinder V = \[V = \pi r^2h\] also something elsse I got

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

Surface Area of a Rectangular Prism = 2ab + 2bc + 2ac Surface Area of a Cylinder = 2 pi r 2 + 2 pi r h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay I think its that one now like I said use the values that you were given for the square prism to find its volume and then its surface area..let me know when youre done

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

ok

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

surface area divided by volume or SA/V

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what?

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

to find the surface area-to-volume ratio you divide the surface area by the volume (SA/V)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No ...what did u get for the surface area of the square prism?

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

Im gonna be honest, I dont know how to, well I cant remember how to!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just use the formula..Dude I CANT GIVE you the answer because this website emailed me a user warning because I was just giving the answers to people instead of helping them so...

OpenStudy (mrnood):

Whoa - slow down - Look at the cuboid - it has 6 rectangular sides - 4 are the same and 2 are different Add up all the areas to get the total The volume of a cuboid is simply the 3 sides multiplied together

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

yeah, but it doesnt give me any numbers for part a

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

how would I find a?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

this is algebra - you don't need the numbers - each of the letters represents a general number So for instance the 4 sides which are the same have edges h and b, so their area is b*h

OpenStudy (mrnood):

solving the question in 'general terms' first allows you to put any numbers in later to get the solution for a specific case

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

ok, that is kind of what I was telling Drsuz98 and she wasnt getting what I was saying

OpenStudy (mrnood):

So - write an expression for the area of the cuboid - using the info I gave above, and the letters b and h

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

so bh and pi r^2h?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

a has 2 parts - 1 is for the cuboid Write its TOTAL area using b and h

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

how?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

I'm not giving the answer Do you know how to get the area of a rectangle form its sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay then???Sure Im not helping

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dude just study the formulas

OpenStudy (anonymous):

learn the formulas and just put the numbers in.... Works like magic :)

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

Im not asking you to GIVE me the answer! Never mind, my mom is home, maybe she can help me! btw, Im not a dude! I am using my brothers account that he practically gave me cuz he doesnt use it anymore because he isnt in school anymore(he graduated)!

OpenStudy (mrnood):

@cyberdemon93 This is not helpful - it works like magic if you know what the formulae mena

OpenStudy (nikeboy1996):

^^^true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I know what a formula means. And what I wanted to say was it's really easy when u try to solve it

OpenStudy (mrnood):

I am willing to help - but not if your only response is to ask for 'how' All the info you need is given above - but you must TRY to understand what it means The letters allow you to make a 'general case' for ALL similar solutions - e.g. a cuboid has volume a*b*c In the PARTICULAR case when you know a b and c THEN you put the numbers in to get a solution
