01.07 ALTERNATE PLOT STRUCTURES ASSESSMENT PARALLEL PLOT While Hansel and Gretels’s parents had been discussing the abandonment of their children, the children stayed awake due to hunger and heard every word they had said. Gretel could not believe what she was hearing! How could her mother and father ever think about abandoning them? She quietly started sobbing because she knew that there was nothing she could do to change their decision. While Gretel sobbed in her bed, Hansel was already thinking of a plan to get back home. Hansel knew that he and his sister wouldn’t survive alone in the forest, but if they find their way back home maybe they can permanently stay. He lay in bed listening to his sister crying until he came up with a plan. He quietly told his sister “Be quiet, Gretel. Do not distress yourself, I will soon find a way to help us.” And with that he climbed out of bed and crept outside. He was trying to decide what should he do if the pebbles didn’t work but he pushed the thought out of his mind. He decided the best way to fin their way back home was to gather pebbles and make a trail leading back to his house. He gathered as many pebbles as he could fit into his jacket and silently went back to his bed. When he looked over at Gretel peacefully sleeping, he knew that they would be able to find their way. He kept thinking about life until he dosed off waiting for the next day. LA MEDIA RES The next morning the witch lead Gretel to the oven. Gretel knew what was coming but she couldn’t just give up this easily. The witch told Gretel to get inside the oven to see if it was properly heated, but what she planed to do was to shut the oven door closed and cook her. Gretel saw what she had in mind and came up with a plan. She knew her brother could not help her because he was locked in a cage by himself, and she knew her parents weren’t around to help her so she would have to take down the witch on her own. Gretel told the witch she didn’t know how to get inside the oven. The witch decided to show her how to get inside. When the witch put her head inside the oven Gretel thrust the rest of her body inside of it and shut the oven door. The witch began screaming because she was dying and the screaming lasted a while until it completely died out. That was the last of the evil witch. In the first paragraph I used a parallel plot. The first sentence is the position in which the story begins. Half of the paragraph was Gretel’s point of view of what was happening. The second half of the parallel plot was Hansel’s point of view of what was happening. The second paragraph begins at the one the most interesting parts in the story and it goes from there. The Media Res paragraph was mostly about Gretel and the witch.

01.12FIRST DRAFT Proserpina is frightened. She disobeyed her mother’s orders and went exploring in the forest. When she caught sight of the most beautiful plant she had ever seen, she decided to rip it from the ground and take back to her mother. But little did Proserpina know, that once she ripped the plant from the ground she would be opening a hole that would lead to Pluto and his castle. Pluto tried luring her to him but once he saw that she did not wish to cooperate with him he kidnapped her. Proserpina never thought this type of thing would ever happen to her but she was clearly wrong. On the way to Pluto’s castle, Pluto tried reassuring Proserpina that she was going to be fine and he offered her a drink from the magical stream. Proserpina refused but she knew Pluto would still try to trick her into drinking some so she promised herself she would eat or drink one bit of anything while she was in Pluto’s custody. After a short while, Proserpina saw the castle for the first time. The castle was the color of cement. It had a gothic type of structure, with huge vultures at each corner of the roof. The door had big brass knockers in the shape of a lions face. If you look past the vultures on the roof you can see that the castle has several towers. On the sides of the castle there were small little windows with bars on them that connected all the way to the grass on the ground. The place had a feel of tension and fright. You can tell people intended to make the castle seem for attractive with a small playground on the side of the castle. No one was EVER seen playing on it. It was the type of place that made you scared of your own shadow. Once Pluto jumped off his horse and he sent the cook to make lots of treats that contained some of the water from the magical stream in it. After that was done, Pluto escorted Proserpina to her room and told her to do what would please her. Proserpina spent the first 2 days locked in her room crying. On her third day of being in the castle she decided she was going to explore the castle. Pluto saw her wandering around and gave her permission to explore the castle as long as she doesn’t go into the west wing. Obviously Proserpina ignores his orders and goes into the west wing and finds herself inside the dungeon. She decided she wanted to know why the prisoners were in the dungeon. After a few hours of speaking with prisoners she learned that they were there for very foolish reasons. Before she leaves she speaks to one prisoner who had remained very quiet while she was speaking to the other prisoners. Proserpina asked him why he has been sent to the dungeon and replied, “Because I did not wish to follow Pluto’s orders.” She spent a little while longer speaking to the prisoner and he promised her that if she freed all the prisoners, he would lead her back home to her mother. In time, Proserpina finally came up with a plan to free the prisoners and bring Pluto down. Before going forward with her plan she told the prisoners the game plan of her idea. But meanwhile, Pluto was just outside of the dungeon door listening to her idea, so he threw Proserpina into the dungeon along with the prisoners. Proserpina finds simple objects like bones and nails to pick the locks and free the prisoners. They decide to carry out their previous plan and take Pluto down. After the long fight, Pluto is thrown into his own dungeon to rot. Everyone in the land wanted Proserpina to lead the castle but she refused and left with the man that promised to take her to her mother. When she finally arrives at home she and her mother reunite. The man that took her home has nowhere else to go so Proserpina invites him to stay with her. After a while, Proserpine’s mother falls in love with him and they lived happily ever after.

Close the question now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay I did @bubbles-are-cool.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay good. hold up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what book are you reading for 2.01? Becuase i have 'their eyes were watching god'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ender's Game. I actually read both eye were watching god and ender's game. but i chose ender's game to write about instead @bubbles-are-cool.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well idk if you can use mine since its a different book but here you go. 2.01 THE HURDLE The book I am reading for this module is “Their eyes were watching god.” The book begins where Janie has already grown old. I am currently on the second chapter. Some challenges that I think characters in this story might face are immigration laws, child labor, and freedom. I think that problems with freedom will occur in the story because I think Janie is black and there might be racism and slavery during the time period in the book. I also think that the story will have immigration laws because it used to be very difficult for Nanny to run away with her child. Also, I think there will be child labor because Nanny was born into slavery and I think Leafy will have to work when she s just a child.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thank you :) I'm just gonna read your paragraph and see what I went wrong on mine. @bubbles-are-cool.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol yw c:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Part B: Identify specific information from your sources that can be used as supporting evidence in your essay. Source 1: Re-type or copy and paste the information for your first source (alphabetically) here. Use correct MLA format. Juba, South Sudan. “Half of the Girls in South Sudan Forced to Marry.” The Associated Press. Copyright 2013. Source 1: Answer the following questions about your first source here: What information from this source seems the most important? Include at least two specific quotations, facts, statistics or pieces of evidence. The information from this source that seems most important to me is the reason that the girls are being forced to marry. In this article it states, “They are among 39,000 girls forced into marriage every day around the world, sold like cattle to enrich their families.” Also, the article has evidence of uncles forcing their niece to marry, “This man went to my uncles and paid a dowry of 80 cows. I resisted the marriage. They threatened me.” Explain how this information supports your essay. This information supports my essay because in my novel Janie is being forced to marry a man when she is very young. Also Janie’s Nanny is forcing her to marry because Janie’s mother Leafy was a disappointment and she wants Janie to be safe and happy. Also, Janie did not have equality in her household because women were expected to behave a certain way. Source 2: Re-type or copy and paste the information for your second source (alphabetically) here. Use correct MLA format. Plan-Uk. “Early and Forced Marriage.” Plan-uk.org. United Nations Population Fund. Breaking Vows Plan UK 2010. Source 2: Answer the following questions about your first source here: What information from this source seems the most important? Include at least two specific quotations, facts, statistics or pieces of evidence. The information from this source that seems most important is why early and forced marriage happens. A quotation from the article is “In countries where the legal age of marriage differs by sex, the age for women is always lower.” Also, another quotation from this article that provides evidence of forced marriage is, “The 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that marriage should be ‘entered only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses’. Where one of the parties getting married is under 18, consent cannot always be assumed to be ‘free and full’.” Explain how this information supports your essay. This information supports my essay because in my novel Janie is forced to marry Logan and then she marries Jody. In the end she finally has her say in who she would like to marry and she decides to marry Tea Cake. Also in the article on source 2, it talks about why early forced marriage happens and one of the reasons is that there is gender inequality. Janie experiences gender inequality with Jody because he expected her to act a certain way because he was the male in the house. Source 3: Re-type or copy and paste the information for your third source (alphabetically) here. Use correct MLA format. UN Publications. “The Universal Declaration of Human Rights.” United Nations 2013. Source 3: Answer the following questions about your third source here: What information from this source seems the most important? Include at least two specific quotations, facts, statistics or pieces of evidence. The information from this source that seem s most important is that it talks about the rights of humans and that people should have equality. An example of equality for any person is, “Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it is independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.” Also evidence of laws that prevent forced marriage and they grant equality is “Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution.” Explain how this information supports your essay. This information supports my essay because it states all the rights of a human being. Also it talks about that a person should have the right to marry who they please. In the articles, women have to have the same rights as men do. There should not be any discriminations between blacks and whites and men and women. Janie has several things that are not right for her.
