Provide three unique examples of polynomials of varying degree and classification. State the classification of each. State the degree of each.

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Okay well Degree is the exponent of the polynominal... And classification just means how many "terms" are in the polynomial So say we have f(x) = 4x^5 + 3x^4 - 2x^3 + 8x^2 - 4x + 1 The highest degree (exponent) in this polynomial is 5 correct And how many terms are there? Well we have 4x^5 -> 1 3x^4 -> 2 2x^3 -> 3 8x^2 -> 4 4x -> 5 1 -> 6 So there are 6 terms in this polynomial

OpenStudy (barrelracer011):

So I could do f(x)= 3x^2+2x^4-2x^3 and it has 3 terms

OpenStudy (barrelracer011):

and the degree would be 4

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Correct :)

OpenStudy (barrelracer011):

Ok thanks :) and again the state is just the number of terms?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Right the classification would just be the number of terms :)

OpenStudy (barrelracer011):

Ok thanks
