Which sentence uses the word effect correctly? Rising oil prices will have an effect on nearly everyone. A gas shortage will not effect me very much, since I walk to work everyday. Will the cost of fuel effect your work?

It's the first sentence. I'm not sure how to explain it, but effect is used commonly as a noun and affect as a verb. So the 'an' before effect makes it right. Most likely, if you typed these on Microsoft Word, you'd get a purple line under the 'effect' on the last two sentences ( showing it is actually 'affect', though the first line would stay the same. Hope that helped :)
