Henry grabs one shoe at a time at random without replacement from a box of ten shoes in his closet. The box contains 4 brown shoes, 2 black shoes, and 4 sneakers. What is the probability that the first two shoes he chooses will be brown? Round to the nearest percent if necessary.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First find the probability that the first shoe taken out will be brown. Can you do that? Then find the probability that the second shoe taken will be brown. Multiply the two and that is your answer

ok thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait, @navk how do i do that? what do i mulitply 4/10 x 4/10?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is partly correct. The first probability is 4/10 but the second is not 4/10 since now there are only 3 brown and total 9 shoes. So the second probability is 3/9.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok ii understand thank you im not very good in probability

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i gto 1.777777777777777777

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@navk ^^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4/10 * 3/9 = 0.1333

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o i did it wrong i muliplied 4/10 * 4/10 and then 3/9*3/9 and then muliplied those 2 together

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is incorrect. You just need to multiply the first and second probability

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you
