A galvonometer consists of a wire coil, with an attached indicator needle, in the magnetic field of a permanent magnet. When current is passed through the coil, another magnetic field is produced which acts against the permanent magnet's field. This causes the coil and its indicator needle to move. How much it moves depends on the current passing through the coil.

It came from learning about and using galvanometers.
when the current flow through the coil it produce a magnetic field having a magnetic moment M = I A I current through the loop A area of the loop now when coil passing current through it is placed in a magnetic field it will experience a torque t = M x B due to torque the pointer get deflect higher the current higher will b magnetic moment and higher will be torque and more the pointer will deflect
